    Tara Devi Temple is a famous temple of Shimla dedicated to Mata Tara, a form of Durga ji. This temple is located on hilltop surrounded by dense forest of pine and deodar. This temple is located around 15 km away from Shimla city. Temple is located just 4 km aside from Kalka Shimla Highway.

    History of Tara Devi Temple

    Tara Devi Temple has been built by Sen dynasty king in 1766 AD. Giri Sen was the ruler of Junga Riyasat of that time. Raja Bhupender Singh of Bengal, who used to be the King of Junga Riyasat, built the temple around 250 years back by donating 50 bigha land. After this, Raja Balbir Singh rebuilt the temple and they devoted the murti of Ashtdhatu in the temple.

    How to Reach Tara Devi Temple

    Tara Devi Temple can be reached by road from Shoghi. A nicely built double road is available to visit Tara Devi Temple. Travellers need to reach Shoghi; from Shoghi, a turn to Anandpur will take you to Tara Devi. Tara Devi Temple is 1.5 km away from Anandpur village by road.

    Travellers also have option to visit Tara Devi Temple from Tara Devi Railway Station, where a trekking route of around 3 to 4 km will take you to the temple. A trekking route from Anandpur is also available to visit Tara Devi Temple from Anandpur village.

    Tara Devi Temple by Bus/Taxi

    A regular HRTC bus service is available starting from 9 AM from Old Bus Stand of Shimla for Tara Devi Temple. Last bus is at 3 PM every day. On Sunday and Navratri, buses are available at a frequency of 1 hour from Old Bus Stand of Shimla for Tara Devi Temple.

    Tara Devi Temple can also be reached by taxi. You can hire a taxi from Shoghi Taxi Union at Shoghi market. Approximately ₹500 would be charged for a sedan from Shoghi Bus Stand.
